He’s dreadlocked, Super chilled. And has an off-the-wall name. Say ‘hi’ to Itchi, soulful singer, songwriter and musician who’s making a name for himself in the Melbourne cover band scene. From folk acoustic to pop rock and reggae, Itchi effortlessly embraces a range of genres. He’s also a master of mash ups, creating fun juxtapositions with styles, tempos and lyrics.
For the past 6 years, his feel-good repertoire of songs has wooed audiences in Melbourne’s pubs, bars, cultural festivals and weddings. The 26 year old was born in Israel with Ethiopian roots and raised in Australia. This, combined with his upbringing in a liberal-thinking household, has informed his diverse musical influences and style.
Itchi started playing the saxophone in his mid teens but quickly gave that up to focus on his instrument of choice – his voice. His first high school band, The Cold Drinks, found a measure of success beyond the garage, playing first at school events, then to drunken crowds in bars (hence the name).
Although the band eventually dispersed, Itchi’s passion for music remained and it is as a solo performer that he is finding his true voice. Versatile and captivating, he is equally at home playing originals or renditions of songs from legendary bands such as Bob Marley, Ed Sheeran and Bob Marley.
