Host a Music Event in Your Business
The call for entries has opened, and the Festival is receiving many applications from musicians wanting to perform during Live N Local. Many genres are represented, from rock to hip-hop, solo artists and big bands. The Festival is seeking venues to host and showcase these acts.
Note: If your venue doesn’t ordinarily program music events but is interested in finding out more, please submit the form or get in touch with our programming team.
Benefits For Participating Venues
Businesses participating in Live N Local are profiled on the event website and the widely distributed printed program; as well as promoted through social media networks.
Participating venues are required to provide:
- a safe place for the band to perform
- refreshments for the band
The Festival requests that if the venue has a PA or other music equipment available for the musician to use, to (please) itemise this in the application form. The band may provide some equipment but this is not always possible. In some cases the venue may be asked to assist with the costs of hiring equipment to make the gig possible.
Only a limited amount of funding is available for the Live N Local program so be quick if you would like your venue to be a part of the program. Selection of venues is based on best fit with musicians who apply through the call for entries process. The programming team works hard to involve as many businesses as possible.
Please note, at times where Live N Local bands are programmed, the Festival requires exclusive programming of participating venues. Once your venue has registered interest as a host venue this can be discussed further with the programming team.
Live N Local Showcase Venues
The Festival programs a selection of ‘showcases’ - that is, a number of bands (ie five or more) playing in the one afternoon/evening. Please indicate on the form if your venue is interested in being a ‘showcase’ venue. Register interest by completing the application form by Monday 29 May 2017. The Festival’s programming team will be in touch to discuss options.
Artist Development Series
Live N Local’s free Artist Development Program for both emerging and established musicians allows attendees to meet experts and gain further skills and knowledge.
Saturday 19 August: The Right Track – a series of forums that roughly chart the making of a record – from songwriting to marketing and distribution; and
Saturday 26 August: The Door’s Open’ a showcase of local organisations that work with and for musicians. These education bodies, recording studios, music retail and hire businesses open their doors for free tours and workshops.
The Door’s Open event showcases City of Port Phillip music-related businesses and provides musicians with the opportunity to increase their networks, knowledge and understanding of the services, venues and vibrancy of the Port Phillip music community. Participating businesses include education providers, recording and post production studios, right through to equipment hire and sale.
